Summer in England: The Top Places to Visit

It’s the summer, despite what the weather seems to be showing us, and with that comes one great big headache: where do you spend your summer vacation this year? Whilst many of you might be jetting off abroad, there’s plenty to see and do much closer to home, with some fantastic spots found all around this funny little island of ours! If you don’t believe us, don’t worry – we’ve got proof! Check out our top UK holiday locations below, we think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by what you find…

Devon & Cornwall

Let’s start off with one of the big hitters – it’s the south-west coast and all of its glory and serenity. Glorious beaches, picturesque Cotswold villages, and wide-open spaces are what the area is all about, so if you’re looking to kick back and relax, you’ve found the perfect place. However, that doesn’t mean that there’s a shortage of things to do – Devon and Cornwall are prime surfing territory and there’s a huge selection of different exhibitions, museums, and workshops that you can take part in. Day trips into some of the larger towns and cities in the area such as Plymouth, Dartmouth, and Exeter are the perfect time to get your shopping head on, or maybe even search around for a taste of some of the local cuisine.

This one might be cheating as it isn’t technically England but give it a chance and you’ll completely understand why we’ve included it. Just a stone’s throw away from the English border, there’s untold beauty to be discovered in the hills, fields and towns of Wales, particularly those found in the simply stunning Snowdonia region. With campsites located halfway up mountains and quaint little B&B’s galore, there’s no shortage of places to stay on your trip – for those who are on the lookout for intriguing little stories, take a trip to the town of Beddgelert and delve into the town’s history and the story of the monument! Besides the area’s history and charm, it’s also one of the most visually captivating sections of the UK and is definitely one of our top suggestions for your summer vacation.

The Lakes

Last, but certainly not least (and definitely in England this time), we’ve got the Lake District and, if we’re honest, this is our top pick. The Lake District has everything – whether you’re looking for an action-packed trip around the region exploring the bodies of water and rolling hills, or even a venture into the little towns that are brimming with life, culture, and character. When you’re looking for hotels in the Lake District to rest your head in at the end of the day, you’ll be spoilt for choice – you can choose from simple bed and breakfasts, cottages, or luxury hotels; the Lakes has got accommodation to suit everyone!

Hopefully, you might now be persuaded to stay closer to home this summer rather than jetting abroad, or at the very least you’ll give the UK a bit more consideration next summer – there are gems to be found if you’re willing to search for them!
