Anyone who knows the Bloody Baron from Nearly Headless Nick or the Room of Requirement from the Chamber of Secrets is clearly a serious Potterhead and needs to be rewarded with some seriously magical experiences, like the ones I’m about to suggest!
It’s one thing to create incredible World Book Day costumes that reference the wizarding world, but what about all those really special and unforgettable moments that only true Potter fanatics can say that they’ve experienced? Happily enough, the Warner Brothers Studio Tour, in Leavesden, makes it SO easy to tick off some must-do things and my top 10 are as follows:
- Get ‘sorted’ before you go.
By clicking onto the Pottermore website, you and everyone in your party can get sorted into your Hogwarts houses. This will help you to feel really immersed when you arrive at the studios, especially if you can have a house scarf at the ready or some robes. Don’t feel silly about dressing up, as the majority of tour-goers wear something that flies their house colours.
- Walk down Diagon Alley wearing a house scarf.
We’ve all been waiting for an owl to let us know that we have been accepted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, but in lieu of that, how about getting in on the back to school excitement? By wearing your house scarf and walking down Diagon Alley, you’ll soon forget that you haven’t actually been invited to attend in the next school year!
- Board the Hogwarts Express.
The tour simply wouldn’t be complete without the Hogwarts Express and you can get on-board, walk the corridors and see the cars where Harry, Ron and their chums all sat in the films.
- Push your trolley through to Platform 9 ¾.
Get your camera at the ready and get some fun snaps of everyone running at the platform wall, luggage trolley in front of them. It’s always a good idea to have someone flick a scarf, to give the impression of motion!
- Bow to Buckbeak.
Ahh, lovely Buckbeak, the Hippogriff that happily accepted Harry after he bowed so courteously to him in the Forbidden Forest. If you always thought he’d accept you too, now’s your chance to find out, as he is at the tour and waiting for you to try and ingratiate yourself. Just remember to keep the eye contact strong!
- Buy the whole sweet cart.
Just as Harry generously bought the whole sweet cart on the Hogwarts Express, after seeing that Ron had a questionable lunch, you can go wild in the aisles of the studio shop and stock up on sweet treats. Chocolate frogs, Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans, peppermint toads and all manner of delicious delicacies are on offer!
- Sit in the enchanted Ford Anglia.
Climb inside the Weasley’s car and get a picture taken and don’t hold back on the dramatic faces! You want it to look like you just crashed into the grounds of Hogwarts.
- Hunt out your wand.
Don’t miss the chance to see if there is a wand with your name on it, on the Ollivanders wall set! Cast and crew had their names used to fill out some of the hundreds of wand boxes, but yours might be there too, so look carefully.
- Drink a Butterbeer.
A delicious drink that’s synonymous with those lazy days spent in Hogsmeade, Butterbeer is a drink that many have tried to recreate but only the studio tour can faithfully offer. It’s a sweet treat that’s hard to beat and offers a good opportunity to have a rest halfway through the day.
- Ride a broomstick.
Fancy yourself as a Quidditch superstar? You can prove your airborne credentials by riding a broom in front of a green screen. You can even take your flight away with you, on a USB stick! The only question is will you be a seeker, beater or keeper?
Whichever aspects of the wizarding world really appealed while reading the books and watching the films, they can be recreated and enjoyed in person, at the Warner Brothers Studio Tour. Just don’t forget that you have to come home eventually!
