We LOVE McDonald’s; it’s been one of those restaurants that’s always been in our lives, me and the man as parents have fond memories as children having Happy Meals as treats, my first experience of collecting something was the little TY bears that came as the toy in our meals. Anyone remember those?
Mumsnet asked us if we fancied popping to our local McDonalds with our children to find out more about the new addition to the Happy Meal menu, the chicken wrap. Which was added to the menu thanks to months of research and focus groups with Mumsnetters.
Now we have one of those children that loves food but is often in a fussy mood, you’ve just got to love kids right? But the one thing Charlotte does enjoy is wraps, when out eating lunch we often have to grab one off the adult menu, well not at McDonald’s; we can get Charlotte precisely what she likes and in a child size portion, at half the cost, fist pump anyone?
And I’m not kidding when I say she gets exactly what she wants, not only have McDonald’s adding the wrap, they’ve also made it fully customisable. In Charlotte’s case, she wanted to remove the lettuce but add cucumber instead. We did all of this at the kiosk which the kids found both fun and easy to use.
You can customise the meal more by exchanging the fries for either a fruit or veg bag, my carrot crazy daughter, of course, went for the carrot bag. Her big brother is a fish finger fan; he always takes that option with the fries and the biggest pot of ketchup available to him. However, he adds on the fruit bag, giving him that extra something once he’s finished his meal.
While the kids waited for the food they sat and played some games on the free to use tablets on one of the tables, this is one of our favourite aspects of the refurbished restaurants near us. Our autistic son Dylan does not eat hot food, or much else really apart from yogurts and crisps so while we enjoy our food, he will sit and play the tablet, keeping him happy and calm, he does, however, enjoy teaming this with a chocolate milkshake, big McDonald’s milkshake fan is that boy!
We didn’t have to wait too long for our food, which included Charlotte’s made to order chicken wrap which came in her Happy Meal box. Now I’ve recently learnt something about these boxes which I admit did excite me more than it should! There is a little tab near the bottom of the box which you pull, which will unravel the top of the box, taking it off and leaving you with a smaller box which doubles up as a plate. And to think all this time, I’ve been chucking the kids food on napkins. Doh!
I’ll save you the photos of a child eating because nobody wants to see that but I’ll leave you with Charlotte thoughts. After all, I can tell you what I think but they’re the ones eating it, it’s what they like that matters.
I liked the chicken wrap, wraps are my favourite. It was delicious and the cucumber was crunchy. I love carrots.
