Remember dates? Those things you did before the kids came along? Well, date nights are incredibly important, even when you’ve been together for years. Sometimes, it’s great to get a babysitter or grandparent to have the kids for an evening and go out together as a couple. Not mum and dad, just you as you were before kids. It’s fantastic to spend time together, away from home stresses, enjoy each other’s company, and relax. But it isn’t always possible to get out, and that doesn’t mean you can’t have a date night. Here are some great ideas of ways to have great nights with your partner, without leaving the house.
Watch a Film
Try to have a regular movie night. Take it in turns to choose the DVD. Maybe pick recent releases you missed at the cinema and recreate the experience by buying in all your favourite cinema snacks and drinks. Or, introduce each other to your favourite films from different stages of your life. This can be a great way of getting to know a different side of your partner, even after years together.
You normally cook for each other, and for the kids, so for a change cook together. Turn some music on and have fun. Be playful, dance around the kitchen together, enjoy yourselves. Experiment with different flavours and textures, tasting as you go. With a busy family, cooking can become a chore, but it doesn’t need to be.
Have a Take Away
If you’ve had a busy day and don’t fancy cooking, order in. Treat yourselves to your favourite foods. Apps like just eat mean you don’t even need to order the same cuisine as each other. Make it a real treat night and leave the clearing up until next morning.
Play a Game
Playing games is something we often stop doing as adults. Board games can be exceptionally good fun. Get some of your old favourites and introduce each other to things from your past. Alternately, playing on a games console together can be exciting if you both enjoy it. Let things get a bit competitive, with extra housework for the loser. Or a lie in for the winner. If you prefer online games, spend some time playing Ladbroke’s new 2017 goals game together. You can set some goals for the year ahead at the same time!
Plan a Holiday
It doesn’t have to be a holiday; any future event will do. Sit together and look through brochures, plan all the things you want to do. Even go ahead and book online to give yourself something to look forward to.
If you have a garden, use it in the warmer months. If your children are younger, you might want to take the baby monitor out with you if you are worried you won’t hear them. Even moving this tiny bit away from home can be incredibly relaxing. Sit outside with a hot chocolate and catch up with each other. This simple task can be quite romantic.
However you choose to spend your valuable date time, make sure your phones and other devices are left in another room. Devote your time to each other, don’t spend it constantly checking emails or notifications. Nothing makes your partner feel special like knowing they have your undivided attention.
